Fort Lauderdale is famed for its water, but many aren’t aware of its active and diverse art scene. If you’re interested in exploring the beauty of Fort Lauderdale’s waterways and the vibrancy of its art community at the same time, put Art Fort Lauderdale 2020 on your calendar.
Taking place over the course of four days, Art Fort Lauderdale is one of the premier art events in Fort Lauderdale, FL. It’s also known as “the art fair on the water,” because of its unique location. You’ll take water taxis and private yachts in between vacant multimillion-dollar properties, where art galleries and artists present their work in a stunning environment. It’s designed to showcase local art and highlight everything the city has to offer, all in one curated, immersive experience.
Locals and tourists alike will love this opportunity to interact with artists and purchase their own pieces. Tourists can see a unique side of Fort Lauderdale’s cultural offerings, while locals are treated to an exciting new date night, family day and art collecting opportunity from some of the world’s hottest artists. Or, if you see a property you like, you can make an offer on that, too, thanks to a partnership with the local Realtors Association.
History of Art Fort Lauderdale
Art Fort Lauderdale aims to make Fort Lauderdale one of the world’s premier locations to view and buy fine art, according to Andrew Martineau and Evan Snow, co-founders of Art Fort Lauderdale. It started in 2017 with artists from just three countries, and has now expanded to include art from over 12 countries, an Artists Talk series, various prominent partnerships and the launch of Fort Lauderdale’s Art and Design Week in 2019.
This year, Art Fort Lauderdale features over 120 independent artists in five pavilions, or waterfront properties. Art Fort Lauderdale features art and technology collaborations, sculpture, painting, photography, dance and film, among other media. This year’s themes include artBAHAMAS, artINDIE and artDISCOURSE. Each exhibit is designed to showcase Fort Lauderdale’s diverse art roots while grounding them in a unique sense of place.
The fair takes place from January 23-26 at 2301 Southeast 17th Street, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316. Tickets can be purchased on the event website and range from $100 for water taxi departures to $2,500 for a private yacht that seats eight. Tickets for opening galas and receptions are also available and range from $150 to $250. During Art & Design Week, there are also a number of free artist talks open to the public.
