If you’re like us, you’ve been eagerly anticipating the fourth annual Art Fort Lauderdale, the “art fair on the water” that combines incredible contemporary art with unique multimillion-dollar properties. From hobbyists to serious collectors, this innovative fair offers beautiful art in a stunning setting, making it one of the premier art events in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
What is Art Fort Lauderdale?
Co-founders Andrew Martineau and Evan Snow started Art Fort Lauderdale in 2017. They had observed that art events in convention centers and the like felt, well, too conventional—so they decided to make use of some of Fort Lauderdale’s most stunning vacant waterfront properties. 2020’s show features five “pavilions,” and if you find that you like one of those multimillion-dollar homes, you can make an offer on those as well.
Art Fort Lauderdale takes place from January 23-26, 2020, and is part of Art & Design Week.
What can I expect from the exhibits?
This year, Art Fort Lauderdale features art from 120 independent artists, hailing from a dozen countries. Most exhibits are paid, but be sure to check out artDISCOURSE. This portion of the fair offers free art talks at local galleries which are open to the public, including presentations from artist Beatrix Ost, model Katti Hoflin and museum owners Ferdinand and Keith Tomlin. Reservations are required, and are available on the event website.
What can you expect when it comes to the 2020 art collection? The other two exhibitions, artBAHAMAS and artINDIE, focus on displaying art across multiple media, including art and technology, visual art, film, dance and more.
This year, artBAHAMAS seeks to showcase “contemporary art, Junkanoo culture and the significant Caribbean art influences,” while artINDIE hopes to give collectors, aficionados and art critics the chance to discover the next hot independent artist. artINDIE is offering work from artists like Ruth Sharton, Magdaly Montenegro, Hector Chivilo and more. This gives artists who may not have a gallery to showcase their work in front of an international audience.
Whatever Art Fort Lauderdale has in store for you, you can expect an experience unlike any other. For example, 2019 featured artINTERACTIVE, a space in which exhibitors teamed up with manicurists, artificial intelligence and video game companies to produce innovative, immersive experiences.
